How much fllour from a bucket?
I see a lot of people online talking about ordering buckets of wheat. My question is how much flour do you get when you grind a bucket (5 gal) of wheat?
I also saw a post somewhere in which the member said he washed the wheat first, let it dry and then put it in the oven at low temps before storing. The washing part seemed pretty smart as there is no guarentee of a easy water supply. Why put it in the oven? I'll look around a bit. I think I saw this on www.thesurvivalistblog.com |
Re: How much fllour from a bucket?
My bread recipes call for 3 cups of flour. When I grind wheat berries to flour, I measure 3 cups of berries plus a little extra because I don't want to be short. But my guess is that the ratio is pretty close to one-to-one. 5 gallons of wheat berries is a heck of a lot of flour.
Edit: wheat berries sold for human consumption have been thoroughly cleaned and do not need to be washed. |
Re: How much fllour from a bucket?
A gallon equals 16 cups. 5 gal = 80 c
A cup of wheat gives a cup and a half of flour.* 5 gal grain = 120 c flour. * Flour settles when it sits. That's why you stir before measuring. |
